8-16-24, The Hill Speedway

A little late to the party this year due to financial reasons, but we finally made it out to the track. We have been super excited to see how the new car worked for us.

Originally, we were just going to use the body that was on the car when I bought it, but Camber wanted the Cocomelon body. So, Camber and I began trying to fit the Cocomelon body from last years Lias chassis, and it actually worked pretty well without many modifications.

I really only want to do the Ny-Penn Series races, but I wanted to get a race or two under my belt with the new Harris chassis to get it dialed in and get the bugs worked out of it. So, we loaded up and went to The Hill Speedway which is also where the next series race was going to be held. We skipped the hot laps like we usually do and lined up for the heat race. Unfortunately, the driveshaft came out after a lap or two and we would not be able to finish the heat race.

After the heat race, we walked up to the corner flagger on the outside of turn 4 and asked him if my driveshaft was still laying inside the track. He said it was sitting right next to him but when I looked, it wasn’t there. After asking a lot of questions, it turned out that a guy from bowling grabbed it for me and returned it to my car.

I had no idea on what kind of shape it was in after coming out of the car or even knew why it came out in the first place. Once I seen it, it looked like the u-bolts were loose on the pinion and that was why it came out. So, I pieced it back together in order to take the green flag in the feature so we could get some money. Initially, I was just going to do a lap or two because the pinion yoke was pretty beat up so I didn’t expect the driveshaft to stay in the car very long.

Once I got on the track, there was a wreck in turn 1, lap 1 but after that, I ran a few easy laps and then eventually started pushing the car. The driveshaft stayed in the car and we were able to complete the whole race and finished 8th. The car did not handle or turn very well, which meant we had some work to do before the next race.
